Healthy mouth healthy body
Your oral health and overall health is very important to us. Oral health is related to your overall health in many ways. There are numerous studies that state the oral bacteria and the inflammation associated with gum disease (periodontitis) have a correlation with certain diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and alzheimers. Diseases such as diabetes and HIV/AIDS, can lower the body's resistance to infection, making oral health problems more severe. It is important to control and prevent infections concerning all aspects of the body.
Preventive dentistry procedures can help avoid more expensive and painful dental procedures in the future. Taking preventive measures ensure a healthy mouth and healthy body.
Prophy - A healthy mouth is free of inflammation and bleeding, there is no infection present. A prophy (regular cleaning) will be done if you do not have any infection and minimal infammation is present. Seeing the dentist regularly can help prevent infection and maintain a healthy mouth.
Fluoride - Fluoride is available for children and adults. Sometimes demineralization can occur leaving teeth susceptible to decay. Fluoride can help to replace lost minerals of your tooth enamel, preventing further cavities and reversing early signs of tooth decay.
OHI - Oral hygiene instruction. When you are in for your dental visit we will review proper brushing and flossing techniques to help prevent infection and disease. Your oral hygiene instructions will be catered to your specific oral hygiene needs. We may recommend other cleaning aids such as electric toothbrushes, waterpiks, proxy brushes or mouth rinses to help achieve good dental hygiene.
Sealants - A sealant is a thin layer of material placed in the grooves of permanent molars to prevent bacteria from causing a cavity.
